funny you should bring that up – well it seats seven and with the whole family when teh baby is born there will be seven of us
BUT i am in a carpool that is seven before the baby is born – so here is my plan : i am going to keep an eye out call junk yards etc looking for a second third seat that will seat three and put it in the middle – so i will have have 2 seats that will seat 3 which will make it 8 seater – i will put the younger kids in the carpool in the back
They can climb over the seat- its only a 5 min drive and all my driving is basically local so I am not too concerned if they are a little tight for 5 min – they will live!!! I got the idea when i was cking out what it is worth and it had the option of 5 seater or 7 seater ( the 5 seater would have the third seat in teh middle and more room in back for cargo – so i know it was tested to be sold that way and is safe also – where i work they have those 12 seater and 15 seater vans – they are so huge – i can’t see myself driving one (i am only4 ’11”) nor do i really want to either
I was thinking maybe a conversion van some seat 8 ) or a used suburban but that would still mean more payments- plus possibly someone else’s headache plus i see kids climbing over the middle seat in the suburban to get to the back anyway — plus I like being car payment free — I can still drive car pool to sports stuff either by being the take home Mom (after DH is home to stay with the other kids) or since i am usually within 1-2 miles of home i will occasionally leave my 12 1/2 yo DS with the 6 yo DS for a few minutes (house locked up etc.)
I figure if we ever take a trip that we may need more room we will rent something – but no use paying new payment for an occasional thing Funny thing is that Lori and I were talking as she was looking for something bigger too- found out we had come up with the same ideas LOL!!!
Old Navy is great place to find deals for almost anyone in the family (link). I love to pick up easy gift cards for my nephews’ birthdays. If you need a baby shower gift – they sell infant size too. 4th of July shirts are always $5 for adult and $4 for child size. My store always ran out and after 4 years I finally got in on the great t-shirt deal.
If you need to buy “docker” style of pants in a hurry and don’t have time to shop around for a good deal, I can always count on finding my size or my husband’s. Same thing with jeans. Otherwise the store is expensive unless it’s in the clearance area in the back. If you are good at guessing what size your family will grow for the next season, I’ve gotten great deals on shirts, stretch pants for girls, and sweats for the family. I bought heavy sweat shirts for $1 a piece in the off season – and stored them away in Rubbermaid containers in the basement.
When I got the 4th of July shirts, they had a great deal on other t-shirts for only $5 each. I’ve washed them many times and left them to hang dry – still looking brand new. I really like their socks when on sale, and all kinds of great little stocking stuffer for the holidays – small bottles of makeup, backpack tags, beads and bangles, etc. I sound like I shop there every week, but I would have to say I stop in once every season for the family, and then quicker trips for the gift card stops.
My children are ages 7 and 8, girl and boy respectively. I’m sizes 14-16 and my husband is 2x. The nephews are ages 10 and up.
Just wanted to let you all know of my excitement for the day. Last year I bought my 3 kids each a Land’s End backpack for school. They were in the sale catalog and were almost half price because the colors for the new ones had changed. Early into the school year my younger son had a zipper stick on one of the outside pockets.
While trying to fix it the zipper broke of course. We just ignored it the rest of the year since it was only an outside pocket and not the main zipper. Also the pack has 2 other pockets so I told him to use those. Today I called them to see if they would do anything about it and they are sending out a brand new backpack!!
They didn’t have the exact one that he has but a comparable one is being sent!! Yoo-hoo! They are sending a postage label so I can send the old one back to them when we receive the new one. This is what I call service! There is a difference in quality of their merchandise as well. I only buy it on sale or at thrift stores but the clothes last and wash really well.
